As part of The Alternative Steel Company’s continued commitment to productivity, it completed the installation of a new Karmetal 1250x700 band saw and a Pegas 550x700 mitre saw in October 2022, significantly increasing sawing capacity.

The Karmetal and Pegas saws increase the sizes of material we can cut and the mitre cuts we can achieve. They also give us redundant capacity across our range, so if a saw is in maintenance, service to the customer is not adversely affected.

At the same time, two existing Behringer saws were repositioned, a redundant saw removed, and cranes upgraded. Access to and egress from all saws is greatly improved, and sawing productivity has been increased five-fold.

Previously, the business had a seven-to-ten-day lead time and wanted to improve production time and reduce the cost of cutting for customers. Lead time has now been reduced to a maximum of two days and, on many occasions, The Alternative Steel Company can cut for next day delivery.
